It’s All Hearsay Mentoring Scheme

The It’s All Hearsay Mentoring Scheme was created to assist all aspiring lawyers with finding their feet within the legal industry and was developed to help as many aspiring lawyers as possible achieve their final goal – securing a training contract.

Why do I mentor?

As you may know, my journey in the legal industry was not without its share of challenges. Having struggled to secure a training contract myself, I understand the daunting and competitive nature of this process all too well. It was a path filled with uncertainties, setbacks, and moments of self-doubt. However, these experiences fuelled my determination to make a difference in the lives of aspiring lawyers who, like me, face similar hurdles. My motivation for establishing the It’s All Hearsay Mentoring Scheme stems from the belief that everyone deserves guidance and support on their journey toward realising their legal ambitions.

Mentoring others matters deeply to me because I recognise the transformative power of mentorship. It’s about sharing knowledge, offering a helping hand, and providing a sense of community in a field that can often feel isolating. I am passionate about empowering and boosting the confidence of aspiring lawyers, guiding them through the intricacies of the application process, and ultimately helping them secure training contracts. This mentoring initiative is not just about achieving numbers; it’s about fostering resilience, perseverance, and growth, and I am excited to continue this journey with the next generation of legal professionals.

What services do I offer?

As part of the scheme, I provide application tips and tricks, give constructive feedback on CVs and written applications, provide insight into certain practice areas and prepare candidates for upcoming interviews and assessment centres. In addition, I assist aspiring lawyers with general career direction and work with candidates to empower them and enhance their confidence.

Other benefits to the scheme are:

You will also be added to a mentees’ group chat, where all the mentees can ask pressing questions, share frustrations, encourage each other to not give up after setbacks and also to celebrate each other’s successes.

You will have the opportunity to participate in a mock assessment centre with other mentees, which will be assessed by trainee solicitors and qualified lawyers.

You will be provided with unreleased resources and 1-1 help throughout the application cycle.

Results and achievements

The It’s All Hearsay Mentoring Scheme has been running for over four years now.

All in all we have achieved over 25 training contracts.

For the 2022/23 application cycle, I took on the enormous responsibility of mentoring 28 aspiring lawyers.

I worked hard to review each mentee’s CV and come up with an action plan to fit their individual circumstances. I helped them understand which firms would be a right fit for their needs, reviewed their training contract applications throughout the entire cycle, held individual sessions to prepare them for interviews, assessment centres and vacation schemes and then coached them to the finish line.

Here are our results for the 2022/23 cycle:

🏅 18 of the mentees got through to assessment centres.

🏅 13 of the mentees got through to the vacation scheme at their chosen firms. With some securing two vacation schemes!

🏅 8 of those mentees were successful in obtaining training contracts. 3 of which even secured double or triple offers!!!

We secured 12 training contracts this cycle alone!

The mentees who did not manage to reach those final stages did not give up and are ready to go again this cycle. Each mentee has significantly improved since the last cycle with many not even passing the application stage previously.

I am very excited to offer the It’s All Hearsay Mentoring Scheme again this next cycle.
